Lizzy triumphed on Sunday in the Capernwray Road Race. She has penned us this report:
Bathed in glorious sunshine Liz, Felicity, Rosie and I headed (further) up north for the Capernwray road race, a narrow and very hilly circuit that was always going to be demanding. We set off amongst a field of 55 strong riders and as expected the main climb of sunny bank, which the riders tackled 5 times, was the key player in splitting the race. Rosie rode exceptionally well mixing it with the leaders during 1st pass of the climb showing some great form before her first National race next week. However it wasn't to be and a second group on the road formed with Rosie, Felicity and Liz and they rode very well together looking really strong on the finishing climb. Meanwhile I was laying low in the front group trying to keep out of trouble and out of the wind! Each time up the climb I formed part of a small group off the front which subsequently came back together on the descent. Approaching the final climb there was a group of about 20 riders all bunched together. I positioned myself well and kept my eye on the main protagonists. Rachel Crichton, last year's winner of this race, attacked at the bottom of the climb and I was quick to jump on her wheel. I matched her all the way up and then just as we were rounding the final bend I managed to stick in one final dig for the line, get the gap and get my hands in the air for Sunsport Velo!
